- This field-based unit provides students with advanced training in regional planning. It introduces students to the history of regional planning and contemporary approaches to plan making, with a particular focus on the integration of economic, social and land use needs. Students are then required to undertake a comprehensive assessment of a selected region and prepare a detailed regional plan.
- Students are able to (1) appreciate the competing theoretical perspectives on regional planning; (2) understand the data needs required for a regional plan; (3) synthesise and interpret economic, social and land use data from a selected regional setting; and (4) prepare an integrated regional plan or policy brief.
- Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) a demographic profile; (2) a project brief; and (3) a regional planning report. Further information is available in the unit outline.

Participation in this unit will incur the following incidental fee(s):Field Trip (estimated cost - Up to $285).
- Contact hours
- Three face-to-face (2-hour) lectures before, and one (2-hour) lecture after the four-day field trip to be held in February. (Charges: cost of food and accommodation is borne by the student). The total workload for the unit is 150 hours.
