Unit Overview

Description

In this unit, students will develop a knowledge base for teaching and assessing senior secondary Technologies. Curriculum documents, pedagogical approaches and theoretical concepts under-pinning the Technologies curricula are examined. Students will explore appropriate assessment practices; and a range of resources and instructional methods appropriate for Years 11 & 12. This unit also focuses on approaches for engaging secondary students in preparation for ATAR and non-ATAR courses.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) critically analyse, plan and synthesise a range of resources appropriate for Technologies education; (2) demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the content and structure of senior secondary Technologies education; (3) demonstrate the capacity to assess selected Technologies content; (4) display the skills required to develop an instructional teaching resources for Technologies teaching; and (5) demonstrate effective assessment practices appropriate for the senior secondary Technologies curricula.

Assessment

Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) teaching Resource and (2) assessment Resource. Further information is available in the unit outline.

To pass this unit, a student must: (a) achieve an overall mark of 50 per cent or higher for the unit; and (b) achieve the requisite requirements(s) or a mark of 50 per cent or greater, whichever is higher and specified in the unit outline, for the teaching Resource and assessment Resource components.

Student may be offered supplementary assessment in this unit if they meet the eligibility criteria.
