Unit Overview

Description

This unit follows on from FREN1491 French for Hospitality 1. It builds on the introduction to French grammar and vocabulary, further developing students' ability to communicate orally and in writing. It develops cultural and linguistic awareness and concentrates on contemporary spoken and written language used in France and other French-speaking countries, with a special focus on the language used in the hospitality, tourism and business sectors. Students achieve language proficiency equivalent to Level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

This unit leads to FREN3493 French for Hospitality 3.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) demonstrate elementary skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking in the French language, with a special focus on language used in the hospitality, tourism and business sectors; (2) use a broad range of sociolinguistic conventions in French; (3) demonstrate knowledge of culture and society in French-speaking countries; (4) use independent learning skills and develop interpersonal skill; and (5) show awareness of language and language use in both French and English.

Assessment

Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) shorts tests; (2) oral tasks; and (3) end-of-semester test. Further information is available in the unit outline.

This unit is only available to students enrolled in the BP073 Bachelor of Hospitality Management who have already completed FREN1491 French for Hospitality 1.
