Outcomes

Students gain practical experience in the medical workplace; an awareness of professional practice; the ability to function effectively as an individual and as a member of a team; and an understanding of professional responsibilities.

Assessment

This unit is assessed on a pass/fail basis. Students are assessed on the undertaking of (1) a minimum six-week clinical elective placement in a medical-related workplace; (2) a written report of approximately 1500 to 2000 words; and (3) a satisfactory supervisor's report form. These three assessments together provide a pass or fail result. The elective report, based on the student's overseas experience, is assessed on report-writing skills; how achievements for the elective related to the student's original aims; what was learned from the experience; some reflection on the practice of medicine in the location where the elective was spent, and how it relates to experiences with medicine in Western Australia.

Student may be offered supplementary assessment in this unit if they meet the eligibility criteria.
