Unit Overview

Description

This unit involves students completing an internship with a host organisation during the course of the semester. It is designed to provide students the opportunity to apply their geographical, environmental, development and planning skills and knowledge within a work-based setting. The unit provides the opportunity for students to better understand the links between theory and practice; develop their skills for the work environment; and further develop their transferable skills.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) demonstrate an understanding of the links between geographical, planning, environment and development theory and practice; (2) demonstrate an understanding of the professional and ethical standards required in the workplace; and (3) show practical geographical and planning skills that can be applied in the workplace post-degree.

Assessment

Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) reflective journal and (2) presentation. Further information is available in the unit outline.



Student may be offered supplementary assessment in this unit if they meet the eligibility criteria.

  • Contact hours provide an indication of the type and extent of in-class activities this unit may contain. The total amount of student work (including contact hours, assessment time, and self-study) will approximate 150 hours per 6 credit points.
