- The general format of the research project is a manuscript including a detailed literature review and an outline of the aims of the project. Sections include a description of the methodology, results, discussion and conclusion. The dissertation is to be written in a format suitable for submission to an appropriate podiatric medical journal for consideration for publication in order to disseminate the research work to the profession.
- Students are able to (1) construct a research question after performing a rigorous literature review and form a hypothesis or hypotheses, where appropriate; (2) design an appropriate methodology for a quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods research study and apply for ethics approval; (3) present an oral presentation about your research to an educated, non-domain expert audience; (4) collect, interpret, analyse, and summarise data pertaining to your research; (5) synthesise research findings and compare the research findings to the relevant literature to formulate appropriate conclusions; and (6) select an appropriate scientific journal relevant to your research and prepare a manuscript in accordance to the selected journal's manuscript requirements.
- Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) written research proposal; (2) oral presentation; and (3) research dissertation/manuscript. Further information is available in the unit outline.
