Minor Overview

About this minor
This minor provides students with knowledge and practical understanding of the relationship between physical activity, physical fitness and human health and wellbeing. Students will integrate knowledge of the relationship of human physiological systems and their response/adaptation to exercise. Students are also introduced to various exercise modalities and training methods used to develop physical fitness in a safe and effective manner. By the end of the minor, students will be able to conduct health and fitness assessment and prescribe appropriate exercise program to meet the needs of the individual. For students taking a minor which shares units with their other unit sets (majors or minors): in order for minors to be recognised on academic and graduation documents, students may only have a maximum of one unit overlapping between their unit sets.
Outcomes
Students are able to (1) demonstrate knowledge in cardiovascular physiology, pulmonary physiology, neuromuscular physiology and metabolic processes and how they respond in an integrated manner to meet the demand of exercise; (2) analyse the relationship between physical activity, physical fitness and human health and wellbeing; (3) identify and describe different components of physical fitness and how each can be influenced through exercise.; (4) assess and measure health and fitness parameters and design and implement health and fitness programs based in the results; and (5) shape a positive health and fitness philosophy for personal use.
