Content
This unit provides students with the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in the area of clinical teaching and supervision. Students explore the theories and practice surrounding clinical teaching, learning and supervision. Students use experiences from their own and others' teaching and learning to inform their practice.
Outcomes
Students are able to (1) discuss adult learning principles; (2) identify student learning needs and negotiate learning goals/learning contract; (3) demonstrate skills in designing and implementing appropriate learning activities relevant to the clinical context; (4) demonstrate skills for facilitating learning in small groups and individual learning; (5) analyse clinical teaching and supervisory scenarios, and develop strategies to deal with dysfunctional/difficult situations; (6) demonstrate competence in providing verbal feedback; and (7) discuss appropriate assessment and evaluation methods in the clinical context.
Assessment
Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) teaching in difficult clinical situations essay and (2) self-critique of clinical teaching. Further information is available in the unit outline.

Information on essential textbooks will also be made available on the Essential Textbooks. This website is updated regularly in the lead up to semester so content may change. It is recommended that students purchase essential textbooks for convenience due to the frequency with which they will be required during the unit. A limited number of textbooks will be made available from the Library in print and will also be made available online wherever possible. Essential textbooks can be purchased from the commercial vendors to secure the best deal. The Student Guild can provide assistance on where to purchase books if required. Books can be purchased second hand at the Guild Secondhand bookshop (second floor, Guild Village), which is located on campus.
