Honours Overview
- Description
As an Honours in Business Economics student, you will study advanced economic theory, review high-level research literature concerning economics and its various applications, and prepare a dissertation that is the result of substantial academic research. Successful completion of the honours specialisation demonstrates that you are competent are competent to interpret and conduct research in at least one field of economics and able to apply advanced economic research methods within that same field.
- Outcomes
Students are able to (1) demonstrate coherent and advanced knowledge of the underlying principles and concepts in economics; (2) undertake quantitative economic research and critically evaluate theoretical and/or applied economic issues at an advanced level; and (3) communicate effectively and succinctly the advanced analyses of the economy and economic outcomes.
- Entry requirements
To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have a Bachelor's Degree with a major in economics and a UWA weighted average mark (or equivalent) of either:
(a) at least 75 per cent across the following three Level 3 units: ECON3302 Applied Microeconomics, ECON3303 Applied Macroeconomics, and ECON3371 Applied Econometric Methods and Data Analysis;
OR
(b) a UWA WAM (or equivalent) of at least 80 per cent across three Level 3 economics units, one of which should be ECON3371 [Applied Econometric Methods and Data Analysis].
Admission is also conditional on supervision being available. Note, applicants are also ranked alongside applicants to the B.Ec(Hons) and the M.Ec (Research Specialisation).
Please note that from 2027 admission to the B.Com(HON-ECON) will only be based on performance in the following Level 3 units: ECON3302 Applied Microeconomics; ECON3303 Applied Macroeconomics; and ECON3371 Applied Econometric Methods and Data Analysis (noting the pre-requisites for these units). The minimum expected WAM will be 75 per cent over these three units. Offer of a place will also be conditional on appropriate supervision being available.
