Chinese Language and Culture minor
This Minor combines language study and practical knowledge of Chinese society designed to boost the employment prospects of STEM graduates. It equips students with the hands-on skills needed to negotiate real world interactions both in business, government and social life. Graduates will be able to speak Chinese with reasonable fluency and have a good grasp of the social, economic and political context of China and Australia's relationship with its largest trading partner. By pairing with a Major in Medicine, Social Sciences, Science or Engineering, students gain an advantage after graduation as they enter the global employment market.
Outcomes
Students are able to (1) demonstrate a Chinese language proficiency, in both oral and written forms, equivalent to Band 2 to 3 of the HSK 3.0 (the new standard) Chinese Language Proficiency Test; (2) demonstrate an understanding of cultural communication practices in interpersonal relationships in China, including in the professional workplace; (3) interact confidently and successfully in both formal and informal contexts; and (4) demonstrate teamwork skills that augment and enhance STEM+ skills.
