Minor Overview
- About this minor
This Minor combines language study and practical knowledge of Chinese society designed to boost the students' employability. It is designed to help students enhance the hands-on skills needed to negotiate real-world interactions both in business, government and social life. By adding this minor, students gain an advantage after graduation as they enter the global employment market. The minor in Chinese is available at two levels: 1) for students with no or little prior knowledge of the language. 2) for students with ATAR Chinese or equivalent.
- Outcomes
- Students are able to (1) demonstrate a Chinese language proficiency, in both oral and written forms, equivalent to capacity recognised by the HSK 3.0 to 5.0 (the new standard) Chinese Language Proficiency Test; (2) demonstrate an understanding of cultural communication practices in interpersonal relationships in China, including in the professional workplace; (3) acquire information literacy and management skills in Chinese through a variety of media and search techniques; and (4) interact successfully in both formal and informal Chinese cultural settings..

All students are required to complete at least three Chinese language units in sequence and then choose between doing a fourth Chinese language unit or taking ASIA3003 Social Issues in Contemporary China. Students with no or little prior knowledge of Chinese take units from Groups A and B. Students with ATAR Chinese or equivalent take all units from Groups C and D.
