      1 Students in the Bachelor of Arts single degree course who choose a major in Asian Studies must include a second major in their course.

      3.2.2.9(1) The major consists of units to a total value of 48 points comprising—

      (a) Level 1 Asian Studies units to the value of 12 points from Table 3.2.2a (Bachelor of Arts options);

      and

      (b) Level 2 or 3 Asian Studies units to the value of 36 points from Table 3.2.2a (Bachelor of Arts options).

      (2) Students may substitute for Level 1 units required under (1)(a) Level 1 units from Ancient History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Economics, Employment Relations, English, Geography, History, Linguistics, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations, Japanese, Chinese or Indonesian.

      (3) The units required under (1)(b) may include the following:

    • Chinese major (Advanced stream)

      Students who have studied standard modern Chinese Mandarin at primary/secondary school level in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore or Taiwan, may enrol in the Chinese major (Advanced stream). This stream is also open to students who have completed Advanced Chinese at secondary school. Native speakers of Chinese may not complete a major in Chinese without special approval from the Faculty.

    • Indonesian major (Beginners' stream) 1

      1 Students who are native speakers of Indonesian and/or Malay or who have been fully or partially educated in one of these languages are not admitted to Indonesian language units.
